Fabric Corner Sofa FAQs

Have a different question?

1. What size fabric corner sofa do I need for my room?

Depending on the size of your room, different fabric corner sofas will be appropriate.

As a rule of thumb, you’ll want at least 60 to 90cm of walking space around the sofa, so start by measuring your room and seeing what sizes will fit comfortably. A corner sofa should also not occupy more than two-thirds of the wall length it’s placed against, otherwise the room can feel too cramped. We have a guide on how to measure up for a sofa that should give you some more tips and tricks for finding the perfect sofa size for your space.

2. What types of fabric corner sofa are available?

We have a whole range of fabric corner sofas in our collection; which you choose depends on your needs, space, and overall taste.

The types we stock include:

  • Recliner: Our recliner fabric corner sofas are a soft, warm option for people who value comfort. The seats will recline backwards and most come with an extendable footrest, so you can find that perfect spot when chatting with friends or watching a movie. These sofas are perfect for families who need comfortable seating for cosy movie nights, or older people who need better support for their health.

  • Modular: A modular fabric corner sofa is made up of separate sections that can be arranged in different layouts. Because of this, the sofa can be added to and reconfigured over time, making it the ideal seating option for growing families or people who often move house – as the individual sections are easier to transport. This type of fabric L-shaped sofa is also great for people who have tricky living spaces that require reconfiguring.

  • Chaise: These types of material corner sofas have an extended seat section, eliminating the need for a footstool that could be taking up floor space. This is perfect for smaller living spaces where a larger fabric corner sofa could take up too much space, or even couples and families that need that extra bit of comfort when socialising.

    3. How to choose the right fabric for your sofa

Choosing the right fabric for your corner sofa can be a breeze, as long as you’re aware of exactly how and who uses the sofa. The main things you need to prioritise are comfort, durability, lifestyle, and maintenance.

For homes with young children, you’ll want to look for a stain-resistant and easy-to-clean fabric that can handle spills, crumbs, and everyday mess the little tykes will inevitably create. Similarly for pet owners, you’ll need a durable fabric that can withstand claws and snagging, and one that is easy to clean in case any accidents happen. Tightly woven and performance fabrics are popular choices.

If you don’t have children or pets to worry about, then you can go full comfort – the comfier the better, after all. Sofas are there to make relaxing that extra bit sweeter, so go for a sofa fabric that creates a warm, cosy feel.

The colour of the fabric is also very important, as families with kids and pets will want darker shades as these can hide stains and pet hair better, while lighter colours will open up the room but require more attention.

    4. What does “left-hand facing” and “right-hand facing” mean?

“Left-hand facing” and “right-hand facing” describe which side the corner or the chaise section of the sofa is on when you’re standing in front of it.

  • Left-hand facing: The longer section extends to your left
  • Right-hand facing: The longer section extends to your right

  • These rules may vary between suppliers though, so it's always best to consult images and dimensions to make sure – or better yet, contact us. It’s important to understand these two descriptors, as if you get it wrong, the longer section could block doorways, windows, and even walkways – especially in smaller living spaces. If you purchase a modular fabric corner sofa, you’ll be able to adjust the seating, so you won’t have to worry about buying the wrong-facing sofa.

If you’re worried about fitting a fabric L-shaped sofa into a smaller space, make sure to check out our guide to sofas for small living rooms.

    5. How do you clean and maintain your fabric corner sofa?

Keeping a fabric corner sofa clean and maintained is a relatively easy process, and it will make sure your new addition will be free from stains, odours, and premature wear.

Weekly vacuuming will remove any dust and pet hair from the cushions and corners, stopping it from setting into the material over time. You should also clean up spills immediately with a clean, dry cloth. Avoid rubbing it, however, as this can push the stain deeper into the fabric. Rotating cushions regularly helps ensure even wear and maintain their shape.

Yes! We deliver all our sofas personally, so once you have purchased a corner sofa from our collection, it won’t be long until you see a Barker and Stonehouse van pulling up outside your door.
